7 free keyword research tools
Google auto complete or Google suggest
There is no better keyword research tool than Google to tell us what people are searching on Google. Google search button has these two features known as Google auto complete where Google auto completes a query as soon as we start typing and Google Suggest where Google let us know are the other terms searched by people
It is a handy tool to know what people are searching on the same topic. Google auto complete shows the suggestions based on the search volume of any long tail keywords. Google suggests that people are also searching these terms and we can try them if we are not getting the desired results from our first query.
Here is what factors affect Google auto complete + suggest
- Search frequency: How many times the particular search was performed in a month/day
- Search behaviour: What the user searches regularly on Google
- Search location: Where on the earth is the user is based
Use this keyword research tool to know what people are searching easily.

Google Trend
Want to know what people are searching about a topic over a long period? Google trend is the best place to go and check the trend of any search over a long period.
It is so helpful when you write about travel, food or fashion where you can check what people ate, travelled or what was the fashion trend last year or within last 5 years.
Google trend is also the best keyword research tool to know contemporary trends. For example, if you write about current affairs, then Google Trends let you know everything which is trending over a year.
Google Trends also show the related topics and what people near you are searching. Isn’t it just cool?
Keywords Everywhere
One of my favourite free keyword research tools. It is a Google Chrome extension which let the user know the search volume of any keyword and how high/low is the competition.
Answer The Public
Answer The Public is an awesome, free keyword research tool to know what people are searching. The good thing about ATP is that it fetches data from both Google and Bing and offer the information in several questions like
- Questions
- Prepositions
- Comparisons
- Related topics
Just try the tool and check the magic.
Ubersuggest
Ubersuggest is a keyword research tool offered by Neil Patel. It works similarly like Keywords Everywhere. The good thing about Ubersuggest is that it offers data for Amazon and YouTube just like KW.
Yes, you read it right. Pinterest is an excellent keyword research tool for anyone who wants to research and plan. It offers detailed results along with long term keywords in tiles under the search bar based on how people are actually searching.
YouTube
YouTube is in fact the second largest search engine in the world. As more and more videos are consumed every day, YouTube search bar is an excellent free keyword research tool to know what people are searching. You can search any term, and it will auto suggest long term keywords based on popular searches.
Bonus Keyword Research Tool
Do you know Amazon has a powerful inbuilt search engine? As the leader of eCommerce, Amazon know what people are searching and how they are taking actions.
If you use affiliate marketing to monetise your blog, do your research by performing Amazon searches to know what kind of products are best seller or have good review.

I usually check on google trends and ubersuggest, though still not able to ace the game. May be because my niche is very competitive and not precise pointing out to one search area. Keywords Everywhere is paid now, and doesn’t help on free searches.
