Defining your blog’s goal is important even before you choose your niche and writing style. This is one thing that will help you to determine everything related to your blogging journey including monetisation.
It should be and will be the base of everything you do regarding your blog.
Every day, around 75 million blogs are published. It means that our blog posts have less than .0001% chance of reading by the mass. But still, the blogs survive. They are read by thousands of people. It also means that we need to compete with millions of bloggers at every second.
So, how to make sure that our target audience is reading our blogs every day? It can be possible by knowing your focus and setting the vision for your blog. A goal for the blog is the first thing you must set to grow it.
It can be anything depending upon what you are looking to achieve with your blog. The blog is the new medium to showcase our talents and skills. The point is a blog can be the perfect online home to show the world who are you.
Let me explain this with an example.
My blog’s goal is to help new and intermediate bloggers and make money from it. I write a beginners’ guide to blog and how to create side hustles to create a revenue stream.
Every blog post that I write, every YouTube video I create, every social media post and newsletters are full of helpful tips and tutorials for my target audience. I promote my books with it to make money.
See, you need to be honest and thoughtful while defining your goal. Your goal can be anything as long as it resonates with you and your tentative audience.
Consider your blog’s goal as your Value Proposition. A value-added proposition is what a brand promises to deliver to its customers. What can be your minimum value proposition? How are you going to offer that value through your blog?
Is it by sharing your short stories to the readers in your niche? Is it to help aspiring writers to get published? Is it to help the readers to pick up the right book by sharing book reviews?
No matter what your goal is, it must have value for your readers.
As I have mentioned, every action regarding your blog will be related to your blogging goal. Here is how to set your blogging goals.
Sit and relax. Now, take a piece of paper (not your laptop) and answer the following questions-
- Why do you want to start a blog?
- What do you want to write about?
- Why is your message important?
- What expertise do you have?
- Do your friends come to you for specific advice on a topic?
- What do you hope to accomplish through blogging?
- How much time and money are you willing to invest?
Now, look at the answers. These answers will give you a clear picture of what is in your mind. The whole “put the words on a paper” is more helpful when you want to pour everything out of your mind.
Look at yourself and write down the skills people love about you. Why people continuously seek your advice? Why do your friends call at the wee hours to discuss something? Is it because you offer the perfect tips to be productive? Is it because you refer the best books for every person?
You need to rely on your uniqueness in every sense. Choose the goal now based on your uniqueness. It may sound little tough, but you already know what you want to do, right? I mean, no one knows you better than yourself. Your blog will be a virtual extension of your personality. So, naturally, it is going to be awesome, right?
While setting your goal, you also need to understand the pain of your reader and help her to overcome it. And only you can decide what type of value you want to offer to your readers.
